Job Title VP Engineering, Vertical Commerce Software VP Engineering, Veritcal Commerce Software Clover is seeking a visionary and high-impact VP Engineering to lead our Vertical Commerce Software teams. You will lead a world-class organization of 50+ engineers, architects, and managers to build the next generation of omnichannel commerce experiences. The ideal candidate has a deep technical background in Android-based hardware systems, distributed cloud architectures, and a proven track record of scaling platforms that bridge the gap between in-store physical payments and global eCommerce. Key Responsibilities Vertical Strategy Define and execute the technical roadmap for specialized vertical features (e.g., Table Management/Kitchen Display Systems for Restaurants; Inventory/Menu management for Retail; Reservation/ Scheduling ). Omnichannel Excellence Direct the convergence of in-store POS hardware with online storefronts, ensuring a unified "single pane of glass" for merchants to manage inventory, customers, and payments. Organizational Leadership Manage, mentor, and scale a multi-functional engineering organization of about 50 members. Foster a culture of high performance, inclusivity, and technical excellence. Platform Scaling Oversee the transition and scaling of legacy systems into high-availability, cloud-native microservices capable of processing billions in transaction volume. Mobile & Hardware Integration Drive the development of Clover’s Android-based POS software, ensuring seamless integration between custom hardware, peripheral ecosystems, and the Clover App Market. Stakeholder Collaboration Partner closely with Product, Design, and Sales leadership to align engineering output with market demands and business growth targets. Required Qualifications Experience Minimum 15 years of progressive experience in software engineering, with at least 7+ years in executive leadership (VP or Sr. Director) managing large-scale organizations Domain Expertise Deep knowledge of the POS ecosystem, specifically within Restaurant (FSR/QSR) and Food/beverages industry Omnichannel Depth Proven experience building systems that synchronize In-store (Card-Present) and eCommerce (CNP) data flows. Fluent in hands-on management of agile development and delivery management Experience establishing an architectural vision and developing robust and scalable software products or platforms using a modern technology stack Experience developing KPIs, standards and procedures to ensure consistent high quality Experienced in modern programming languages such as Java, JavaScript, REACT, Spring, RESTful/JSON web services frameworks ​ Technical Stack Expertise Cloud Expert-level understanding of AWS/GCP, microservices architecture, and high-concurrency distributed systems. Android Significant experience with Android OS at scale, including app performance optimization and hardware-software interfacing. Agentic AI Familiarity with Agentic AI frameworks to enhance the POS and Software experience. Scaling Track Record Demonstrated success in scaling an engineering team and a platform through hyper-growth phases (e.g., from 1M to 5M active merchants). Education BS/MS in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field. MBA or equivalent leadership training is a plus. Preferred Skills FinTech/Payments Background Understanding of PCI compliance, EMVCo, and payment gateway integrations. Salary Range $236,000.00 - $354,000.00 These pay ranges apply to employees in Sunnyvale, California. Pay ranges for employees in other states may differ.
