Community Management Associate

<p>The  Wikimedia Foundation seeks a Community Management Associate to engage and grow online communities, develop tone-of-voice guidelines, identify real-time cultural moments, and help build a Gen Z-focused social media presence for Wikipedia and broader visibility for the Wikimedia Foundation.</p> <p>This position sits on the Social Team within the Foundation's External Communications department. You will play a key role in shaping our community management approach, bringing energy, creativity, and curiosity to how Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation shows up across social media. From helping to develop tone-of-voice guidelines to identifying real-time cultural moments to respond to, and  helping us tell the stories of our global volunteer community, this role will help build stronger bridges between Wikipedia, the Wikimedia Foundation, and global audiences.</p> <p>This is a full-time, hands-on, fast-moving role — perfect for someone who thrives on social media trends, loves connecting with online communities,and is eager to experiment and iterate.</p> <p><em>Ideally you are: </em></p> <ul> <li><strong>Deeply embedded in digital culture</strong>, trends, and the tone of different short-form video platforms (especially TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts).</li> <li><strong>A strong communicator</strong> with core experience writing and editing social comment copy in a consistent, brand-aligned voice.</li> <li><strong>A connector</strong> who enjoys engaging with online communities and has a genuine curiosity about people and their stories.</li> <li><strong>A detail-oriented and collaborative teammate</strong> who can juggle multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.</li> <li><strong>A data-aware experimenter</strong> who uses analytics and insights to inform and evolve social strategy.</li> </ul> <p>With guidance from the Senior Manager, Social Platforms and other senior members of the Social team, you are accountable for:</p> <h4><strong>Community Engagement & Strategy</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Helping to develop and document a <strong>community management playbook</strong> for Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation.</li> <li>Experimenting with and evolving each brand’s social <strong>tone of voice</strong> that resonates with global audiences, in partnership with broader Communications teams.</li> <li>Proactively identify and act on <strong>engagement opportunities</strong> to connect with new or underrepresented audiences.</li> <li>Surfacing and amplifying <strong>community stories, milestones, and impact moments</strong> that showcase the breadth and diversity of the volunteer communities that contribute to Wikipedia and wider <a href="https://wikimediafoundation.org/what-we-do/wikimedia-projects/">Wikimedia projects</a>.</li> </ul> <h4><strong>Innovation & Growth</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Staying current with social media <strong>platform innovations, new features, and emerging trends</strong> that can enhance Wikimedia and the Wikimedia Foundation’s reach.</li> <li>Recommending and testing <strong>community management and social listening tools</strong> to improve responsiveness and scalability.</li> </ul> <h4><strong>Operational Support</strong></h4> <ul> <li>Assisting with tracking and reporting on <strong>engagement performance, community sentiment, and  emerging discussion </strong>on social media platforms.</li> <li>Contributing to <strong>experimentation and reporting</strong> — tracking which community management tactics resonate and helping shape a data-informed approach to growth.</li> </ul> <p><strong>Skills and experience</strong></p> <ul> <li>+2 years of experience in community management across social media platforms.</li> <li>Strong understanding of social media platform dynamics and how to craft messaging that performs on each (TikTok, Instagram Reels, YouTube Shorts).</li> <li>Demonstrated ability to engage authentically with online communities and manage multiple accounts or brands.
